App Updates for September
Hey everyone!
I have some really great updates to announce for the Crucial Tracks app. All 4 new features were requested by our community members (or heavily influenced by feedback I've received)... so you are making an impact on the site and community. Keep the feedback coming!
Let's dive in...
- Better reminders - Building off the email reminders announcement last month, I am pleased to announce that reminders are even better! You can now set a time to receive your email and the site respects your selected time zone settings. SO the reminders will now come exactly when you want them...
- Prompt Explorer - next up is the initial release of something I am calling Prompt Explorer, which gives you access to all prompts, including an indicator for the ones you've completed. (You can do the prompts as many times as you'd like, though!)
From this page you can either start a new post from one of the prompts (if you aren't feeling the day's prompt, for example) -OR- view everyone's public entries for a specific prompt. See how the prompt has resonated with other community members over time!
To help connect prompts to entries, I added a new button on the dashboard (and Prompt Explorer page) called 'New with Prompt' which pre-fills the prompt in the entry box and connects the entry to the selected prompt.
- Public Profile themes - I recently added 3 dark and 3 light themes to the account settings (under Appearance), which allows you to customize your public profile page to fit your personality. You can see Dracula on my profile page.
I am willing to add more over time, so if you see a theme you like, please send it my way!
- Enhanced manual entries - Last but not least, I added support for Bandcamp and YouTube URLs when creating a manual entry (one not started with an Apple Music track selection)... using these URLs adds an embed to your post, allowing for readers to hear the song you are writing about in that entry.
YouTube video URLs and Bandcamp track URLs are supported. For YouTube, you can see my post from today featuring a Hayley Williams video. Bandcamp shows their standard track player embed:
