Crucial Releases: July 25 & early August

A new music extravaganza! This summer is flying by, which means another super issue of Crucial Releases, this time covering the last Friday of July and first two New Music Fridays of August.

Since this issue is JAM PACKED with 17 honorable mentions, I limited myself to one feature pick per release week to highlight my favorites. Don't skip the honorable mentions section, though... there are a lot of good releases there!

Here we go:

Precipice by Indigo De Souza (Listen)
Her album All of This Will End (Listen) finished in my top 25 of 2023. I'm not quite sure this album is as good as that one, but it does have some absolute gems on it, like "Crush", "Crying Over Nothing", and "Heartthrob". She's heading into more of a pop direction, but she has kept enough of her quirks and unique melodies to keep things interesting.

"Crying Over Nothing" by Indigo De Souza

"Heartthrob" by Indigo De Souza

These Days by Emily Hines (Listen)
Hines does the lofi alt folk that I love, similar to Merce Lemon, Adrianne Lenker, Squirrel Flower, and hemlock. My only complaint is the album is too short!

"All of our Friends" by Emily Hines

"Cowgirl Suit" by Emily Hines

God Does Like Ugly by JID (Listen)
If you like hip hop, JID just dropped my favorite hip hop album of the year. JID has some of the best technical ability and dynamic flows going today. Combine that with southern hip hop style and perfect features, you have a recipe for a great album. JID delivered here, adding to his already impressive discography.

"WRK" by JID

"Community" ft Clipse by JID
