Buck Meek is probably better known as a member of the band Big Thief, playing guitar and adding backing vocals for that group. Like other members of Big Thief, Meek attended Berklee School of Music, though they did not form the band until after graduation.

Meek has recorded 4 solo albums since 2018, with a self-titled record and Two Saviors released on Keeled Scales and Haunted Mountain and The Mirror released on 4AD.

Haunted Mountain was a top 30 record for me in 2023 and I think The Mirror is even better. The idiosyncratic folk songwriting is still there and it’s enhanced by electronic sounds and synths to make for a fresh sound. Combined with some of his best solo songwriting, The Mirror is certainly a record that will be on repeat… and I think will be in contention for one of my favorite records of the year.
