#365songs (52 / 365)
I'm trying not to frontload my all-timers this year but this is probably one of them. Kid A was my first Radiohead album and maybe the first album to really whet my appetite for That Weird Shit. Not that, in retrospect, Kid A is that weird... but to me? In like 2000? The first five notes of "Everything in its Right Place" sounded like they were beamed in from the future.
It's "Idioteque," though, that feels like the crux of Kid A, both because it's where the album's paranoid and apocalyptic vibe reaches its purest form and because it's a top-tier stone cold fucking banger. I don't know how many times I've listened to this song (and the version on the I Might Be Wrong live album) but I've been listening to Kid A for 25 years and I'm not sick of it yet.
