Basement is a post-hardcore/emo band from England and Wired is their fifth full length album and first since 2018’s Beside Myself. Honestly, prior to this release I wasn’t familiar with their music despite a list of influences that are certainly right up my alley. I’m pretty sure it’s due to them hitting right at a time when my kids were little and I wasn’t paying as close attention to music.
Regardless of all that, I’m a fan now. The first 3/4 of Wired is absolutely stellar, with the last 1/4 ending on more of a mellow, slower note that kind of gives a stark contrast to the first batch of songs. Not that they are poorly written at all, but some sequencing changes might have made a bigger impact on my overall feeling of the album. Regardless of all that, the album will certainly be getting repeat plays and I expect it to be one of my favorite hardcore/punk adjacent albums for the year.
