Frankie Morrow (aka Maz McMillan) is an English singer-songwriter and Way Out West is her debut album. Frankie Morrow has been on “English bands to watch” lists for years after releasing a well received EP in 2022 and a number of singles over the last few years. The full-length album is finally here and it’s glorious.
Far Out Magazine has a much better and in-depth review of the new album – a better review than I could ever put together so head over there to dig into that…
The TLDR is, basically, you have someone that obviously loves Neil Young and Gillian Welch and other folk/Americana superstars… but you also have a little bit of indie too – think Feist or Sharon Van Etten – which gives the songs a bit of an edge. She’s a fantastic songwriter and has great, emotive vocals that really mesh well with each and every song.
Highly recommended.
