Why is this one of my Desert Island Discs?

Lots of textures and things going on. Dirty guitar sounds as well as lovely keyboards. Spent a lot of teenage hours listening to this.

Even now, a fresh listen can highlight something new to love.

I think I bought this in 2001 when it had a “Mercury Prize Winner” sticker on the case. I’m sure it was not long after the awards, and there was a huge section dedicated to all the nominees in HMV.

A bit mad to find out that the awards took place on September 11th that year, especially given the New York references on the album, and that Harvey was in Washington on the night, accepting the win over the phone.
