Terms of Service

Last updated: April 27, 2026

Crucial Tracks is operated by Jason Dettbarn as part of Eko Wave LLC. By using Crucial Tracks, you agree to these terms. They're written in plain language because we'd rather you actually read them than scroll past a wall of legalese.

Your account

  • You need to be at least 13 years old to use Crucial Tracks.
  • You're responsible for keeping your password safe and for everything that happens under your account.
  • If you think someone else is using your account, let us know right away.

Your content

The stories you share on Crucial Tracks are yours. You own them. By posting content, you give us permission to display it on the site, include it in RSS feeds, and feature it in community collections like Community Tracks and Mixtapes. That's it — we're not going to use your content for anything weird.

You can export your content at any time and delete it whenever you want.

How Crucial Tracks works

This isn't your typical social media platform, and that's by design. A few things to know:

  • One post per day. Slow and intentional.
  • No algorithm. No one is deciding what you see. Serendipity reigns.
  • No ads, ever. Your attention is not for sale.
  • No Spotify integration. We use Apple Music, Bandcamp, and YouTube. Here's why.
  • No corporate social media integration. RSS, Mastodon, and Bluesky are as far as it goes.

Acceptable use

We have a separate Acceptable Use Policy that covers what's expected of everyone in this community. The short version: be kind, be respectful, keep it about your experience with music.

The service itself

Crucial Tracks is a passion project. We do our best to keep it running smoothly, but we can't guarantee 100% uptime or that everything will always work perfectly. We'll always try to give you a heads up before any planned downtime or big changes.

Crucial Tracks is not a backup service. While we take care of the data on our end, you should export your content periodically if it's important to you (and we make that easy to do).

Ending things

You can delete your account at any time. We can also suspend or terminate accounts that violate our Acceptable Use Policy. If that happens, we'll tell you why.

Limitation of liability

Crucial Tracks is provided as-is. We're a small operation doing our best, not a giant corporation with infinite resources. To the extent permitted by law, Eko Wave LLC is not liable for any damages arising from your use of the service. We hope it never comes to that — we're all here for the music.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make significant changes, we'll notify you through the site or by email. Continued use of Crucial Tracks after changes means you accept the updated terms.
