If you were a professional athlete, what is your walk up or intro song?
This is the song I thought of first, but then it reminded me of another Pogues anecdote.
Most punk-y bands back at that time used to play very un-punk music before they came on. So you'd get obscure funk, or jazz, or prog music. Some of it may have been fine in another context, but I remember a journalist referring to it at the time as "keep these bastards seething music".
Anyway, when the Pogues played the Hammersmith Palais, around the time of Rum, Sodomy and the Lash...just before they came on they played the Pistols, Pump it Up, and the Specials...and maybe Dexys.
It seemed a very ballsy thing to do, but it worked
