Post one of your favorite country songs.

I am one of those people who finds something to enjoy in just about any musical genre. During undergrad, country was the most popular musical genre among the residents of the college town and surrounding areas. Those four years helped open my ears to quite a bit of contemporary country. My favorite band from that era is Rascal Flatts. That foundation, and my general interest in history, keeps me curious about exploring classic country and seeking out good new country.

Enter Luke Combs.

The country song I am playing most often these days was my introduction to Luke's music: Where the Wild Things Are. I enjoy his amazing vocal performance on this track so much that I missed the story he's telling in song on my first dozen listens. Once I tuned into the lyrics, I found a story that is a poignant exploration of brotherhood, wanderlust and loss.

Luke has plenty of credits for songs he's written for himself and for others so it's notable that he did not write this one. (Randy Montana and Dave Turnbull wrote this song, which floated around Nashville for years waiting for an artist to pick it up.)

I loved this track enough to give Luke's new album, The Way I Am a listen as soon as it was released. It's not amazing (😬 Alcohol of Fame) but tracks like Tell 'Em About Tonight and Be By You made it totally worth a few complete play-throughs for me. (Over on record.club, I rated the album and wrote more.)
