I Stink 'Cause I'm Funky
Funk Master Wizard Wiz
Hey, I think you need this classic in your life today.
I miss mid-80s hip-hop.
Tape Loop A Echo
Jason Moran · BlankFor.ms · Marcus Gilmore
Familiar primarily with Moran's more straight-ahead jazz work, I was taken for a ride by the Shards collaboration with BlankFor.ms and Marcus Gilmore, particularly this glitchy, loopalicious gem. I love the way it builds (and I'm a sucker for tape loops).
Khúc Tình Yên Vui
Saigon Soul Revival
Saigon Soul Revival's latest track is fun blend of a surf-rock and ska/rocksteady instrumental vibe with cải lương-style vocals. I'm a big fan of this group's music, design aesthetic, and overall approach.
Do What You Want
Billy Preston
I was listening to the latest edition of WeFunk Radio and this gem from Billy Preston popped up. It's just one of those feel-good funk groovers.
Somehow I was unaware of this synthpop banger until I heard it on Soma FM's Underground 80's channel. There are obvious comparisons to Kraftwerk to be made, but I can't get enough of the vibe here, with the train whistles and chugga-chugga rhythms. And the video's a blast, too.

This song is 14 years old now and, well...
All I Have Is Love
Johnny Osbourne & Dennis Brown
(this was originally posted on This Is My Jam in 2015)
There are few songs that give me goose bumps every time I listen to them. This is one. Two of reggae's best voices, a fantastic riddim, and an amazing recording.
If you were a professional athlete, what is your walk up or intro song?
If I were a fighter (hah!), no doubt it would have to be M.O.P.'s "Ante Up." That song makes even me want to start flipping tables over and punching people in the face.
Do Ciebie Kasiuniu
Kapela ze Wsi Warszawa
A song in a language that you don't know.
I listen to a fair amount of music in languages I don't speak. If you limit yourself to only music in your native tongue, you may miss entire subgenres or variations of ones you're familiar with. Mix it up.
The track I chose to answer this particular prompt is by Kapela ze Wsi Warszawa (in English, the Warsaw Village Band), who play traditional Polish folk music. The track "Do Ciebie Kasiuniu" ("To you, Kasia") from the 2001 Wiosna Ludu (Spring of the People) album is a wild, sweeping tune with intense, upbeat rhythms, sharp horns, and ethereal vocals. It's one of those "holy crap, they make music like this?" moments.
