#365songs (71 / 365)
Hard to pick just one song off The Microphones' iconic the Glow, pt. 2 because the album is such a singular experience as a whole, but the title track is as close as anything comes to a microcosm of what makes it special. You got the raucous distorted guitar and crazy drum fills in the intro (there'll be more, in "I Want To Be Cold" and "Samurai Sword) and the hard panned acoustic guitars like the ones that made "I Want Wind To Blow" such a compelling opener. The rickety-sounding piano like in "I Am Bored." A weird section over some kind of washy mellotron sounding thing that's not unlike some of the weird ambient interludes on the album... and then one of my favorite moments on the whole thing, as Phil Elverum sings, "My blooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD flows harshly," holding that "blood" for a shockingly and increasingly intensely long time. And then the outro, which is groovy and intricately layered and basically just fucking rips until it stops practically in the middle of a note, which doesn't even make sense as a thing to say. God, what a song. What an album.
