It kind of hasn't been cool to like U2 since that thing everyone's still mad about where they put their new album on everyone's iPod. I have to admit, though, I don't think you get an undeniable song like "Bad" without the same impulse that leads, down the road, to thinking that you're doing the world a favor by yeeting your new album at them. This is just the kind of song that a band with grandiose notions about themselves would make. But it's good as hell and the grandiosity is part of it. You simply cannot do the "27 -ation words in a row" section at the climax of this song unless you are really feeling yourself. But they pull it off, is the thing!!

The Unforgettable Fire is actually one of the top U2 albums I come back to now that I'm out of my like "U2 Phase." I can't with the whole We're Going To Be The Biggest Band In The World thing, I just want them to get kind of weird with it, and they got weird with it on The Unforgettable Fire. But I fully believe that the only reason they didn't put The Unforgettable Fire on everyone's iPod is they weren't yet big enough to have the chance and also iPods didn't exist.
