Why is this one of my Desert Island Discs?

Vampire Weekend's self titled record is a stellar debut with some of their most iconic songs, but the follow up: 2010's Contra is a masterclass in songwriting, lyrics, and production... and my favorite album of theirs (to date).

I've been a fan of Vampire Weekend for most of their existence, but I am a super fan now after seeing them for the second time at the Borderlands music festival last fall. I was lucky enough to see them in a small venue in Buffalo when Father of the Bride came out in 2019, but their performance last year was otherworldly and probably my top concert experience ever...

So, that meant a Vampire Weekend album was destined to be a Desert Island Disc and Contra will provide the proper vibes in my new locale.
