Why is this one of my Desert Island Discs?

My love for hip hop began with Run DMC in 1986 and evolved to LL Cool J, Slick Rick, Public Enemy, EPMD, BDP, Geto Boys, the DOC, and Eric B and Rakim to close out the decade. Once the 90s hit, I was all in... De La Soul, Beastie Boys, Digable Planets, and of course A Tribe Called Quest. Each still an all-time favorite.

From that era, A Tribe Called Quest sits on top and The Low End Theory is the album that means the most to me. The album came out in September 1991, so I was in 10th grade. I wore that cassette out.

The most important thing ATCQ and this album gave me, though, is saving me from Vanilla Ice.
