What is the oldest song you like?

Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture. I worked at a movie theater when V for Vendetta came out, and you could hear the awesome cannon part all the way down the hall.

A song from the 2010s that you like or means something to you.

The whole Magic Hour album is pretty great, but I think this might be my favorite Scissor Sisters song. Yes, even counting Let's Have a Kiki.

A song from the 1980s that you like or means something to you.

There was a radio show in Raleigh 20ish years ago that would do a thing where a listener could submit 3 requests to be played in the afternoon. For my 25th birthday, I submitted 3 songs from my birth year (1984). The DJ said they didn't often play this one outside of Halloween, but why not?

(The other two songs were Girls Just Want To Have Fun and Footloose.)

A song from the 1970s that you like or means something to you.

My answer to the Colbert Questionert question -- You get one song to listen to for the rest of your life: what is it? (This doesn’t mean listening to it on repeat, but every time you choose to listen to music, this is the only song you’ll hear.)

Because it is:

  1. Partially uptempo
  2. Awesome
  3. Fun to sing along to
  4. Genius
  5. Long
  6. A certified banger

What is a song that makes you think of your first job?

I worked in a swim club concessions stand. (If you've seen the movie Shallow Hal with Jack Black and Gwyneth Paltrow, it was that pool.)

It was 2002. There was a swim team. They were the Waterdogs (whatever that is). This song got played. A lot.
