#365songs (120 / 365)
The friend who introduced me to The Beths bragged about his success rate at spreading the gospel of The Beths. "Everyone I've introduced them to has liked them," he bragged. At this point I was already one of his converts. The Beths are an incredibly likable band. And I like them, contra "You Wouldn't Like Me."
"You Wouldn't Like Me" has a very classic rock sound but with a very 21st-century self-deprecating lyrical sensibility. On an album chock-full of brash (but vulnerable) power pop it does the quiet/loud/quiet thing to perfection, which I think is what drew me to this song over the, honestly, 9 other excellent ones on this 10-song album. And who can't relate to that feeling that your internal world is too loathsome to expose to anyone who you might want to get close to? No friend of mine!!!
