Man, I love this band. Really looking forward to the debut full length in August.

The kind of music fan who ends up moving to Scotland in his 40's to write a PhD thesis about Nick Cave. No, that's not a joke.

Recently watched the Mogwai documentary If the Stars Had a Sound and it has me going back to their early records for the first time in a while. They still sound as exciting and alive as ever. Just magical.

Post one of your favorite standards.
Sondheim is one of the greatest songwriters America has ever produced, but his songs are generally too musically sophisticated to garner the kind of broad appeal that makes for “standard” status. This one is the exception. When Barbara Streisand, Frank Sinatra, Judy Collins, Grace Jones, Judi Dench, Bryan Ferry, and Mark Kozelek have all recorded versions of a song, you not only have a classic on your hands but a song so powerful it utterly transcends genre.

Life is crazy and I’ve been kind of abysmal at posting for the last six weeks, but I just need to say that this Friko record is definitive proof that the kids are most definitely all right.

As a Reznor ride-or-die, this weird hybrid live/remix/reimagine record is one of the most exciting things I’ve listened to in a while, which genuinely makes you listen to the songs with fresh ears. And it sounds sooooo good… hits HARD.

Bonkers.

New sunn O))) record last week. Like all their records, it is not or the faint of heart, nor is it something I will listen to regularly, but they are absolute masters of what they do. Their walls of guitars are both brutal and beautiful and reward the listener willing to surrender to their aural tsunami.

What I most appreciate about this record is that it is mostly songs that I wouldn't have chosen if I were to choose the ideal trackless for a Bon Iver live record, and I'm thoroughly enjoying hearing the way the bands performance is transforming my view of each selection.
Not sure how I’m just discovering Morgan Nagler, but I’m glad I am.

Some albums have a good opening track, but the 2nd track is totally killer. What's your favorite 2nd track song?
Is it overplayed? Absolutely. Is it a stone cold classic that perfectly captures a moment in time and one of the greatest 2nd tracks of any album ever? Also, probably, yes. Maybe. 🤷🏻♂️
