Bad Meets Evil (feat. Royce Da 5'9")
Eminem
This song opens with one of my favorite verses in a rap song:
I don’t speak
I float in the air wrapped in a sheet
I’m not a real person
I’m a ghost trapped in a beat

I love the sample of I Shot the Sheriff in this song
I had a huge crush on Hope Sandoval back in the day… almost as big as the crush I had on Susanna Hoffs from the Bangles 😍😂

This song will forever remind me of the spring of 2009. My wife at the time was pregnant with our twins, and in early May, she was admitted to the hospital for monitoring (she was pre-eclamptic and her blood pressure was up). She’d stay there until labor was induced in mid-June. I spent as much time at the hospital as I could, including many days working from her hospital room in the most uncomfortable chair on the planet.
Our 3 dogs were not happy about this situation, so I spent a lot of time making the 5-10 minute drive back and forth from the hospital to our house. This song was getting a ton of airplay on Portland radio stations at the time and I remember hearing it constantly on my drive. I eventually ended up downloading it and adding it to my regular listening rotation.
To this day, I still remember how those drives felt and how the weather was getting warmer and how everything smelled. We were about to become parents — to twins no less — and we were absolutely terrified.
It’s crazy how a song can bring all of those feelings and emotions rushing back. My boys will be 17 in June — it seems like both yesterday and a lifetime ago that I was sitting in that hospital, scared shitless about what the future would hold.
