Today’s Prompt: What’s a song that grew on you over time?

By nature, I’m skeptical about music everybody seems to love. That’s why Future Islands had a hard time getting through to me. Hearing this single on repeat endlessly on the radio, also didn't help at first. But when I caught myself singing along to it, my skepticism caved in. They just make great pop music.

Unfortunately, I don’t live in a country where breakbeats are prominent or popular, so hearing this one anywhere in public would feel like being somewhere else.

This tune is the reason why I started to understand why people like jazz. I’m still not big into the genre, but I can get the appeal by now.

I find new music in many ways, but there are two I particularly enjoy: getting personal recommendations from people who know me and my taste in music, and being surprised by supporting acts at concerts which is how I discovered High Vis.

I vividly remember hearing bands like Soundgarden, Faith No More and Silverchair as a kid – either on car rides or blasting from the kitchen while my dad was cooking. So, I was always kind of used to these kind of more aggressive sounds growing up. But this track also has a laid-back tone that makes it feel especially homey to me.

Today’s Prompt: What’s the first song you’d play at a party?

I actually opened my last DJ set with this tune. It’s not really a party or a dance tune, but I love how moody and cinematic it is. Plus it’s a real treat to hear it out loud over a good PA system. The party turned out fantastic, by the way, so my advice would be: Celebrate the music and the rest will follow!
