I started listening to 100 gecs because I kept seeing people talk about them like they were a joke, and they are kind of funny, but they also are just a ton of fun. I thought I liked their debut (1,000 gecs) more than 10,000 gecs when it came out, but then I listened to 10,000 gecs at the end of the workday every day for like a month and now I'm not so sure. In any case, "Doritos & Fritos" is my favorite off 10,000 by a decent margin: I'm a sucker for a harmonically nonsensical backing track in a pop song and the cacophony of distorted guitar harmonics here is like candy to me. The lyrics, like in many gecs songs, are a bunch of fun-to-sing nothing, but that guitar is going crazy, and the bass is getting slapped, and the drums are tight, and the pre-chorus melody is sticky as hell, and the chorus is the song title shouted four times. What the fuck else do you want? How about a half-assed deadpan rap verse containing the line "I'm joining the circus / I'm going berzerkus?" Are you not entertained???

2026-01-09 Karaoke Edition: I sang this song at karaoke on Jan 9. Vibes in the room I would describe as "bemused" but people got sufficiently into it to shout the last chorus along with me.
